399 Engineer Receives "Best of Best" Award

Congratulations to Godfried Ravelingeen, an Engineer at the Inn of Chicago – Mag Mile. Godfried was recently presented with the “Best of the Best” Service Industry Award at a Luncheon at the DoubleTree Mag Mile. Presenting the award at the recent Luncheon were Inn of Chicago General Manager Nick Katinas and Kokua Hospitality Managing Director Birgit Radin. Following this presentation, Godfried attended the State of Illinois Regional Awards Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency O’hare.

Local 399 Member Restores Classic Car

Local 399 member, Bob Berkow, restored his classic 1929 Mercedes Benz and now proudly shows off his masterpiece (pictured left) at many local classic car shows in the area including, most recently, at the Cantingy Car Show held on Sunday, September 16, 2012, in Wheaton, Illinois.
Bob is an Engineer at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital.

Local 399 Engineers Show Commitment to Excellence!

Marine Lance CPL. Joseph R. Harr Local 399 Engineer's Son Honored for His Service to our Country
We would like to acknowledge the service of Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph R. Harr, son of Local 399 Engineer Bill Harr. Lance Cpl. Harr was the parade Grand Marshall at the Oak Lawn July 4, 2012 Celebration. Cpl. Harr was joined in the lead parade car by his father and mother.
While on leave Cpl. Harr spent time fishing, attended three White Sox games and a Jimmy Buffet concert. He also took time out from his leave to join his proud father, Bill, a t our Local 399 Family Picnic.

LOCAL 399 ENGINEERS - DRIVING EXCELLENCE AND SUSTAINABILITY

Congratulations to the engineering team at Jones Lang LaSalle, 77 West Wacker, or their management excellence and on-going sustainability efforts.
Some of the team's recent achievements include:
Building Operator Certification Levels I & II Ð includes training and project work in building systems and maintenance;
Completed Local 399 Educational courses along with 28-course annual curriculum developed by the Chief Engineer and taught through JLL's TPC's Training Systems;
Energy Star Certification (2009, 2010, 2011) with current rating of 91;
LEED Existing Building Operations and Maintenance Gold Certification (April 2011);
Successful retro-commission through a sponsored initiative from ComEd/Smart Ideas, over 900,000 KwH of energy reduction measures were identified and successfully implemented;
Implemented the use of Clean Urban Energy, a software system that helps identify thermal mass control and ways to re-utilize it to reduce HVAC usage while maintaining comfort levels;
Launched GridConnect, an integrated software platform that provides commercial office consumers with real-time energy information. The software empowered the engineering team to meet energy needs through an optimal mix of demand response strategies all while reducing energy consumption and realizing significant energy savings;
Tenant satisfaction survey conducted by Kingsley, the team scored 4.77 out of 5;
Honored by Jones Lang LaSalle for Management Excellence and recognized as Property Management Team of the Year 2011;

We would like to acknowledge Local 399 member Frederick Woods, an Engineer at Anchor Mechanical who also serves in the weekend reserves as a Petty Officer, 1st Class. Fred recently spent time in training exercises with the Maritime Safety and Security Team in Guatanomo Bay Cuba and during this time, was named Shipmate of the Week.

LOCAL 399 MEMBER RECEIVES SIGMA AWARD

Congratulations to Patrick Biesty, Engineer at 550 W. Washington. Pat recently received the Sigma Award at the JJL Engineering Conference in Austin, TX. The Sigma Award recognizes best-in-class Engineering operations. Only participants with a minimum of one year of consistent excellent service are eligible for this Award.

Congratulations to Deirdre Flanagan, Granddaughter of Local 399 member Mike Flanagan, an Engineer at Loyola University Medical Center.
Deirdre recently won the 2012 Money Smart Essay Contest for the Federal Reserve Bank. As the winner of the contest, Deirdre received a $5000 scholarship along with a trophy (shown right) and will serve as the 2012 Money Smart Kid Ambassador for BMO Harris Bank.

Retired Local 399 Members' Son Signs Contract with Philadelphia Eagles

The Philedelphia Eagles selected Dennis Kelly in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. A four-year letterman at Purdue, Kelly was named a team co-captain as a senior after being voted the team's offensive MVP following his junior season. LOCAL 399 MEMBER NAMED IPWSOA OPERATOR OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to City of Highland employee Tony Hempen, who received Surface Water Division, Operator of the Year Award from the Illinois Portable Water Supply Operators Association.
This competition was against surface water operators from across the state. Earlier this summer, Tony also received Operator of the Year from South West Central Water Plant Operators Association, which encompasses twelve counties in southwest central Illinois.

LOCAL 399 DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING RECOGNIZED FOR COMMITMENT TO ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Congratulations to Mike Ruhl, Director of Engineering at the Fairmont Chicago Hotel. Mike was recently honored as Fairmont’s 2010 Environmental Engineer of the Year. This award recognizes an Engineer that has made an outstanding commitment to Fairmont’s Energy and Carbon Management Program, ensuring timely accurate data is submitted and clarified, innovative energy reduction and conservation initiatives are implemented at the property level, and representative support is provided to the property based Green Team.

Congratulations to Aldo Moron on being awarded the Harbor Group Managment Company Engineer of the Year. LOCAL 399 ENGINEER HONORED AS INTERCONTINENTAL CHICAGO O'HARE EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to Local 399 Engineer, Frank Callo. Frank was the receipient of the February 2011 Employee of the Month Award from the Intercontinental Chicago O'Hare Hotel. Frank was sighted as a "well respected Engineer always willing to do whatever is necessary to make the hotel successful and guests happy." Frank has been with the Intercontinental Hotel since 2007.

111 SOUTH WACKER RECEIVES DUAL GOLD LEED CERTIFICATION

Congratulations to the engineering team at 111 South Wacker. The building was the world's first speculative high-rise to receive LEED-Core & Shell Gold certification in 2005. Now, they have received a 2010 LEED Exisiting Building certification.
111 South Wacker is one of a few select buildings in the nation to achieve dual Gold certification in LEED.

LOCAL 399 MEMBER RECEIVES J.H. ROE AWARD

MAY 2010 – Jones Lang LaSalle’s Engineering and Operations group conducted their annual conference for lead technical personnel from facility and property management assignments throughout the U.S. and abroad.
This year about 400 Chief Engineers, Operations and Maintenance Managers met for five days at the Engineering Operations Conference in Austin, TX. Each attendee selected from a variety of workshops on subjects most relevant to their facilities and responsibilities.
The top performing engineers received special recognition at the event. The J.H. Roe Award recognized the single conference participant judged to have, over time, consistently performed at the highest level. This year, the award was presented to John Schmidt (center) Chief Engineer of the AON Center in Chicago, IL.
Congratulations John on this prestigious award. You exemplify the experience, professionalism and dedication that our Local 399 Engineers bring to the workplace!

LOCAL 399 MEMBER'S SON COMPETES IN CABA WORLD SERIES

Congratulations to Marty O'Brien and teh Lincoln-Way Prospects baseball team from New Lenox, IL, who recently won the 9U CABA World Series held in Woodstock, IL
The Prospects battled teams from all around the country and defeated the Tri-County Drillers from Misissippi to capture the title. The Prospects went undefeated during the elimination bracket. Marty is the son of Martin O'Brien, Chief Engineer at 10 & 30 S. Wacker Drive.
